"Les Accidents de l'Enfance" is a series of stories depicting children in horrible accidents, framed as a warning and advice to children to listen to their parents and to not get into trouble. The stories are accompanied by a variety of illustrations of the accidents described in the text, by French illustrator and engraver Edmond Morin (1824-1882), who illustrated many books and periodicals, such as "Children's Week", French illustrator Gerlier, and Fortune Meaulle (1844-1901), a French engraver best known for providing engravings for Victor Hugo's "The Toilers of the Sea", based on drawings by Francoise Chifflart (1825-1901).

This volume has a lovely cloth binding with bright gilt floral patterns on the front board; it is one of only a very few online as of this writing.

___DESCRIPTION: Full red cloth with title inside floral pattern in black and gilt, inside gilt ruled borders, on the front board, gilt lettering and floral decorations on the spine, black floral pattern with publisher's name, inside black ruled border, bevelled boards, all edges gilt, blue endpapers, frontispiece a black-and-white illustration by Edmond Morin, title page with publisher's device in black, black-and-white engraved headpieces by Gerlier and Meaulle throughout, black-and-white drawings by Morin throughout; octavo size (8.25" by 5.5"), pagination: [i-vi] 1-216. Please note the text is in French.

___CONDITION: Volume is very good, with a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; boards are clean overall with some slight soiling, some rubbing to the edges of the board, to the corners, and to the head and tail of the spine, sunning to the spine, and some minor foxing to some of the interior pages. Although the exterior has some wear, the interior pages are clean overall and the text block is strong, with bright gilt on the front board.
