They Still Call Me Assassin -- Here We Go Again

(San Diego): Regal Productions & Publishing, (1989). First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo size, 223 pp., signed by Jack Tatum and Bill Kushner. Near fine / good +. Item #18093005

John "Jack" David Tatum (1948-2010) was an American football player who is best known for playing nine seasons with the Oakland Raiders in the National Football League (NFL). Although we all know and love them as the "Oakland" Raiders, at the time this book was published they were actually known as the "Los Angeles" Raiders between the years 1982 to 1994, before relocating back to Oakland where they still are based (as of this writing - soon to depart for Las Vegas, Nevada for the 2019 season).

A successful athlete, Jack Tatum was popularly known as "The Assassin" because of his hard-hitting playing style. "They Still Call Me Assassin" is his second autobiography, following "They Call Me Assassin", and like the first, it is an exposé of the violence of the game, of a brutality that is encouraged by spectators and coaches alike. The book also serves as a portrait of both Tatum and the Raiders, and the pressures involved in playing one of America's most popular sports.
