San Francisco: The Arion Press, 2006. Ulriksen, Mark. Limited Edition. No. 288 of 400 numbered copies, quarto size, 170 pp., signed by Arnold Hano and Mark Ulriksen. Item #18082710
"A Day in the Bleachers", first published in 1955 by Thomas Y. Crowell, is a firsthand account of the first game in the 1954 World Series, between the New York Giants and the Cleveland Indians. That game turned out to be one of the most famous in the history of baseball, in which Willie Mays made an over-the-shoulder catch deep in centre field; now known simply as "The Catch", it is the stuff of baseball legend. Author Arnold Hano (b. 1922) is an American sports writer, editor, novelist, biographer and journalist, the present volume being his best known work. He updated the afterword for this edition, apprising the reader on the lives of key players from that game and on how baseball has changed since. The text is enriched by artist Mark Ulriksen (b. 1957), an American illustrator who is probably best known by his covers for the "New Yorker".
