In "Scar Strangled Banger", Ralph Steadman focuses his attention on the United States of America in a grotesque and sharply witty collection of drawings in both colour and black and white. His work in this collection focuses on the Nixon years, Vietnam and Watergate, as well as on the Reagan years. Steadman is best known for his collaborations with Hunter S. Thompson, and for illustrating numerous works in his his truly singular style.

____DESCRIPTION: Original full blue cloth with title in red to backstrip, pictorial endpapers, signature of Ralph Steadman with the year "87" underneath, and what appears to be a cartoon character, above his signature, on the left-hand side of the double-spread title page, almost every page filled with artwork, many in full colour; quarto size (11.75" by 8.75"), first edition, signed by Ralph Steadman. In the original pictorial dust jacket, price of GBP 15.95 on the bottom of the front flap, summary of the book on the front flap, author's picture (dressed as a very sad Statue of Liberty) and short bio on the back flap, wrap-around art on the two panels and spine.

___CONDITION: A fine copy overall, the covers clean, the corners straight and unrubbed, the binding tight with solid hinges, the interior clean and bright, and free of prior owner markings; a slight bump at the head of the backstrip, otherwise fine. The unclipped dust jacket is near fine, with a hint of toning to the spine and extremities, and a hint of overall wear; the colours bright and unfaded.
