A small book by the inimitable printermaker and typographer Eric Gill (1882-1940), in which he makes a case for socialism and social justice through the lens of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ; each stage of his crucifixion is examined and explored as it relates to contemporary social and economic issues.

This book features a wood engraving by Gill, of Jesus Christ carrying the cross, done in simple line work carved into the block.

___DESCRIPTION: Green paper wraps, dark navy lettering and wood engraving by Eric Gill on the front wrap, dark navy lettering on the spine, title page with same wood engraving as the front wrap; sixteenmo (6.5" by 4"), pagination: [i-iv] 1-21.

___CONDITION: Volume is near fine, with clean wraps, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; spine is sunned, shallow crease to the front wrap, very slight wear to the corners, and slight cracking at the gutter of pages 16 and 17, but text block is still strong.
