Utilising the structures of both the leather-bound case and the accordion book, "A Single Day" is a poem by Gary Young (b. 1951), the first Poet Laureate of Santa Cruz County, and includes pulp paintings by the poet; the poem, short in form, tells of two girls who are struck by lightning, an intense and dazzling instant that explores what a single day can hold and demonstrates a human perception of time.
This volume is the deluxe edition, with a sterling silver plate mounted to the front board, with the image of a lightning strike cut out of an oval in the centre.
