A beautifully illustrated souvenir guide to Tokyo published prior to WWII, from the Japan Guide Book Series, with lovely wood-cut illustrations. Scarce in the trade, as of this writing we find one copy online and no auction records, with approximately a dozen library holdings for copies printed 1934-1937 .
___DESCRIPTION: Original limp red cloth with lettering and Mount Fuji vignette stamped in gilt, paste paper endpapers with a scene of a mountain with flowers in the lower corners, four colour wood-cuts which are reprints of colour-prints by Hiroshige (1796-1858) tipped in with captioned tissue guards, three three-color plates, and 24 halftones; sixteenmo size (6" by 4.5"), pagination: [i-ii] i-[ii] i-[iv]  2-202 [1 colophon], second edition (so stated).
___CONDITION: Better than very good, internally bright and complete, all four lettered tissue guards present protecting the wood-cuts, the text block is straight and square with solid hinges, and free of prior owner markings; the covers are a bit dull with a few faint damp stains, very light foxing to the endpapers, internally bright and the colours in the illustrations deep; very good to near fine, a lovely guide book to pre-War Tokyo.
