This volume is a portfolio issued to commemorate the seventy-fifth birthday of notorious bookseller, collector, poet, publisher, and literary patron Jake Zeitlin (1902-1987); during his sixty years as a bookseller, Zeitlin founded the Primavera Press and co-founded the Rounce & Coffin Club, both of which were major supporters and producers of fine letterpress printing in the Los Angeles area for many years. His social group was known as the "Zeitlin Circle", and it played a significant role in literary culture, including organising the first American exhibitions of Käthe Kollwitz, Paul Landacre, and Edward Weston, as well as testifying in a California Supreme Court obscenity hearing on Henry Miller's novel "Tropic of Cancer".

He was also the editor of the short-lived though impactful literary journal "Opinion", participated in local politics, and served as a mentor to colleagues and book collectors; his influence is felt to this day. This portfolio features original photographs of Zeitlin during 1976-77 with friends and family, situated in his home and shop near La Cienga Blvd., Los Angeles, California; it also includes a signed linocut print made in tribute to Zeitlin by his friend Hans Burkhardt. With a lengthy introduction by Ward Ritchie, himself a renowned bookman and printer, proprietor of The Ward Ritchie Press, which is also based in southern California.
