This volume is a chronological collection of Benjamin Franklin’s original "Almanacks" including prefaces, verses, historical and scientific observations, and all. The almanac was first published for the year of 1733 and was published once a year for the next 25 years. It contained all sorts of interesting information such as the calendar, weather predictions, sayings, poems and demographics, as well as recipes, trivia, advice, aphorisms, and proverbs about industry and frugality. Franklin considered it a vehicle of instruction for common people who could not afford books, a literature for the masses (N. B. info from Monthly Letter and Benjamin Franklin Historical Website). Today it provides a fascinating glimpse into the life of 18th-century America, prior to the Revolutionary War; our favourites are the many aphorisms from Ben Franklin, such as "A good Lawyer a bad Neighbor", and "He that falls in love with himself, will have no Rivals." Perfectly paired with six full-colour oil paintings, of which two are double-spreads, and some forty line-drawing illustrations by the quintessential American artist, Normal Rockwell.___DESCRIPTION: Bound in quarter natural suede cowhide, French marbled-paper sides, stamped zodiac symbols on the side, red skiver (sheepskin) label with gilt lettering on the spine, illustrated with oil paintings and line drawings by Norman Rockwell; set in monotype Ehrhardt and Janson on natural Curtis laid paper, folio size (12.5" by 8.25"), pagination: [i]-xiii, [xiv], -300, [blank], colophon , limited edition, this number 351 of 1500, signed by artist Norman Rockwell.
