Jane Austen (1775-1817) is likely one of the most popular female authors from the past two centuries, and is known as the English writer who first gave the novel its distinctly modern character through her treatment of ordinary people in everyday life. In her novels, she vividly depicted English middle-class life during the early 19th century and her writings have since been presented on stage and screen countless times. This novel, published posthumously in 1817, is a work of Austen’s maturity. Like "Mansfield Park" and "Emma", it contains subdued satire and develops the comedy of character and manners.___DESCRIPTION: Bound in full rust-brown buckram, gold-stamped, grey buckram sides, illustrated with line drawings and with tempera paintings printed by Holyoke Lithograph Company; set in monotype Bembo and Bauer Elizabeth on off-white smooth wove paper, designed by Robert L.
