This publication by the Limited Editions Club contains the text of the Dead Sea Scrolls, also known as the Qumran Caves Scrolls, translated by British scholar Geza Vermes (1924-2013), who wrote extensively on the history of religion, particularly the life of Jesus in the wider narrative of Jewish history and theology. Illustrating this volume, with haunting, spiritual watercolours, is Shraga Weil (1918-2009), an Israeli painter whose work has been exhibited throughout the world.

___DESCRIPTION: Quarter orange levant-grain leather with natural linen boards, gilt lettering on the spine, frontispiece a watercolour by Shraga Weil, title page in orange and black with line drawing in black, full- and double-page watercolours and line drawings in black by Weil throughout; monotype Joanna and Albertus, St. Paul's Cray rag paper, folio size (12.5" by 8.5"), pagination: [i-x] 1-241 [242] [1 colophon], one of 1500 copies, this number 351, signed by Shraga Weil on the colophon. With an announcement for the book, one sheet, and the LEC Monthly Letter, one sheet folded once with a horizontal crease for mailing. In glassine wrapper, housed in a slipcase covered in orange paper, with cream paper spine label with title and line drawing in orange.

___CONDITION: Volume is fine; the covers clean, the corners straight and unrubbed, the binding tight with solid hinges, the interior clean and bright, and free of prior owner markings; clean, crisp, as new. The LEC Monthly Letter and announcement are fine, clean and without wear. The glassine wrapper is very good, clean, with creases to the panels, light overall edge wear, and small chips to the head and tail of the spine and to the corners. The slipcase is near fine, strong and sturdy, clean overall with a few stray marks, light wear to the corners, and some sunning to the spine.
