Margaret Mitchell's (1900-1949) classic Civil War-era novel "Gone with the Wind" was immensely popular upon publication; it won her the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1937 and was adapted into an immensely popular film in 1939 starring Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable.

The Limited Editions Club publication is lavishly illustrated by John Groth (1908-1988), whose animated mark making renders the characters and scenes of the stories with a spirited energy.

___DESCRIPTION: Volume 1 with quarter grey cloth and blue cloth boards, Volume 2 with quarter blue cloth and grey cloth boards, both volumes with grey and blue cloth spine label with gilt rules and lettering, top edges stained grey, title pages in red and black with line drawing by John Groth in black, line drawings and watercolours, some as double-page spreads, by Groth throughout both volumes, text printed in double columns; linotype Janson type, Basingwerk Parchment paper, quarto size (11.75" by 8.75"), pagination: Volume 1: [i-xii] [1-2] 3-293 [294]; Volume 2: [i-viii] 297-593 [594] [1 colophon], one of 1500 copies, this number 351, signed by John Groth on the colophon in Volume 2. Each volume with a glassine wrapper, all housed in a slipcase covered in blue cloth, with a cream paper spine label with blue ruled borders and lettering.

___CONDITION: A fine copy; the covers clean, the corners straight and unrubbed, the binding tight with solid hinges, the interior clean and bright, and free of prior owner markings; clean, crisp, as new.  The glassine wrappers are very good, clean overall, with light edgewear, each with a one-inch closed tear at the head of the spine and Volume 1 wrapper with another closed tear along the spine, shallow creases to the front and rear panels. The slipcase is near fine, strong and sturdy, clean overall with a few spots of soiling, a light spot of indentation to the edge of the spine, the spine and top edge are sunned.
