Hamburg: Cigaretten Bilderdienst, 1933. Hardcover. Quarto size, pp., illustrated. Fair / good. Item #17101302
A profusely illustrated souvenir book charting the history of the Nazi Party (the NSDAP (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterparte) or, in English, the National Socialist German Workers' Party) up until 1933; note that all text is in German. While we abhor the politics and policies of the Nazi party, we present this book as a part of 20th century history; only by understanding what lead to Hitler's rise to power and trying to understand the sway he had over an entire nation can we hope to prevent another such dark period. ***DESCRIPTION: Original brown cloth stamped in gilt to upper board and backstrip, in original pictorial dust jacket, illustrated with hundreds of mounted photographic plates, full page monochrome frontis portrait of Adolf Hitler, numerous captioned monochrome illustrations loosely mounted, two full-page color plates, two full-page monochrome plates, numerous textual vignettes, six-panel folded monochrome panorama plate, text in German black letter; quarto size (12 3/8" by 9 3/8"), pagination: [1-8] 9-151 [1 index]. ***CONDITION: Internally complete and still quite bright, though the binding is fully damp stained, some loss to the cloth along the joints, hinges are split and have stains in the gutters; the dust jacket is similarly damp stained and chipped at all edges, overall a fair copy in a good jacket that could benefit from some restoration; fair. ***POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard shipping charge does not always cover costs; please inquire for details. ***Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind book we sell.
