(n. p.): . Gill, Eric. Limited Edition. No binding. No. 39 of 50, numbered in pencil by Eric Gill. Near Fine. Item #17083239
Lovely engraving on copper of Moira Gibbings by the inimitable Eric Gill (1882-1940), signed in the plate by Gill and numbered 39 of 50 in Gill's hand. Robert Gibbings took over the Golden Cockerel Press in 1924 and Gill supplied illustrations for the Press's major works, "Canterbury Tales" and "Four Gospels", during Gibbings's tenure; the Gibbings were personal friends of Gill's as well. The engraving has a gentleness to it; the simple and understated line work form the beautiful detail of the portrait.
