A wood engraving skillfully rendered by Eric Gill (1882-1940), portraying the Madonna and child; the simplicity of the mark making and rich dark shades convey a deep sense of devotion.
___DESCRIPTION: Leaf of cream paper (7.75" x 4.5") with wood engraving printed in black, tipped onto larger leaf of buff paper (9.75" by 7.5") and the whole enclosed in a stiff plain brown envelope. Titled in pencil at foot of buff leaf and signed (or attributed to?) "E. Gill"; we cannot confirm the signature to be Gill's.
___CONDITION: Near fine; cream paper with print is clean overall with a few stray marks, without edge wear; the larger buff paper has some age-toning to the margins but is otherwise clean and without wear.
