[Chefoo, China]: [Women's Bible School, Self Help Dept., Presbyterian Mission], . Stiff wraps. Wraps covered with cloth, oblong octavo size, leaves of heavy paper, leaves of glassine with text. Near fine. Item #17051201
An amazingly detailed craft book made by women at the The American Presbyterian Mission of the Chefoo Station, as a fund-raising project. The illustrations are cut-out silhouettes, accompanied by a short piece of prose relating a moralistic story, in which a quick thinking hero is rewarded with future riches or success, with the stories all adapted from well-known legends from Chinese history. The scenes depict figures and animals in rustic settings, beside trees, streams, bridges, and caves. An extremely delicate and uncommon work.
