London: Samuel Bagster, 1808. Hardcover. Stated seventh edition, octavo size, 512 pp. Good. Item #16103005
Izaak Walton's (ca. 1593-1683) "The Compleat Angler", first published in 1653, was a milestone publication on the subject of fishing; often a celebration of fishing rather than an instruction manual, Walton includes both prose and poetry expressing the joys of fishing, interspersed with details of various fish and how to catch them.
This 1808 edition includes a biography of Walton; he wrote numerous biographies, collected in "Walton's Lives", and he continued to add to "The Compleat Angler" throughout the rest of his life.

___CONDITION: Volume is good only; it has a strong, square text block and the boards are clean overall; a few spots of soiling, overall rubbing, corners are gently bumped, light soiling to the endpapers and to the margins of some of the interior pages, the gutter at pages 244 and 245 is slightly cracked, both hinges tender but text block is still strong, title page and following page appear to have pieces of blank paper adhered to them that obscures some text, there are some prior owner markings in pencil to the front paste-down and to the verso of the rear flyleaf, and the leather of the spine (excepting the leather label) has been worn away, with a piece of the spine laid in at the back of the book.
