San Francisco: John Henry Nash, 1936. Limited Edition. Hardcover. One of 1000 copies, quarto size, 60 pp., inscribed by Ernest A. Wiltsee. Near fine / very good +. Item #16060114

This book is the endeavor of historian Ernest A. Wiltsee (1862-1947) to collect letters and other written statements providing an eye-witness account of the events preceding and during the Bear Flag Revolt. Wiltsee draws his conclusions about Fremont from the texts and correspondences themselves, and provides documents that had not been brought to light before, in this look at a controversial character during a pivotal moment in California history. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper as follows: "To my friend / B.F. Vandenberg Esq / with the best compliments / of E A Wiltsee".
