Perhaps one of the best-known French actors of the first half of the twentieth century, Maurice Chevalier (1888-1972) was nominated for the Academy Award in 1930 for Best Actor for his roles in "The Love Parade" (1929) and "The Big Pond" (1930), which secured his first big American hit, "Livin' in the Sunlight, Lovin' in the Moonlight" (n. b., from Wiki).
___DESCRIPTION: Full sky blue cloth, gilt lettering on the front and spine, Chevalier's signature boldly written with a blue fountain pen on the front free endpaper with inscription "To / Merv Griffin - / With affectionate / admiration. / Maurice Chevalier", one section of black-and-white photographs bound in; octavo size (approximately 8.25" tall), pagination: (1)-221. In a dust jacket shows with pictorial head shot of M. Chevalier with red and white lettering on the front panel and spine, quotes from the book on the rear panel, and a summary of the book on both flaps; the dust jacket is unclipped and has the original price of $5.95.
___CONDITION: Volume is fine, with a strong, square text block, solid hinges, three corners are perfectly straight and one is gently bumped, all with no rubbing, the interior is clean and bright, and it is entirely free of prior owner markings. The dust jacket is very good plus, unclipped, there is some overall edgewear particularly at the head of the spine, and one short (one inch) closed tear where the head of the spine meets the front panel; the rest of the jacket is crisp and clean, with the red lettering on the spine strong and true (not sunned).
