Rabbi Ezekiel Isadore Epstein (1894-1962), an Orthodox rabbi and scholar, translated this edition of the Talmud published by Soncino Press, a Jewish publishing company focusing primarily on English translations of Jewish works; "The Babylonian Talmud" is a monumental work totalling thirty-six volumes, which were published over a sixteen-year period. This set comprises the first eight volumes, published in 1935, and includes the tractates in the "Seder Nezikin" ("The Order of Damages"); the text largely concerns Jewish law and the court system.

In a beige paper dust jacket with red ruled border and decoration on the front panel, black lettering on the front panel and spine, and a list of the other volumes of the set on the front flap (on the rear flap in Volume VII); the dust jackets are unclipped but have no price listed.
___CONDITION: Set is overall fine, with clean boards, the gilt on the top edges exceptionally clean and bright, strong, square text blocks with solid hinges, the interiors are clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; a few corners are bumped, a few volumes have light rubbing to the heads and tails of the spines, and a few with light soiling to the bottom of the text block. The dust jackets are near fine, unclipped, clean overall with a few stray marks to some, very light edge wear, and a couple volumes with small chips to the corners and heads of the spines.
