New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1955. Hardcover. Octavo size, 209 pp. Very good + / good +. Item #14120601
The story of the "unsinkable ship", while tragic in the extreme to all who lived through it - or whose lives were lost - continues to fascinate all, even today, over 100 years after the disaster. The ship sank in only a little over two hours, with, it is estimated, a loss of 1,500 souls - out of the approximately 2,224 who were on board.
Walter Lord's (1917-2002) thorough account of the sinking of the "RMS Titanic", on April 15, 1912, is widely considered an authoritative source of information for the disaster; Lord interviewed over sixty survivors, and weaves history and memoir together in this volume. Lord also served as a creative consultant to film director James Cameron during the making of the hugely successful 1997 film "Titanic".
