Dr. Ralph Brazelton Peck (1912-2008) was eminent in his field, winning multiple awards, authoring over 200 publications, and teaching for 33 years at the University of Illinois in structures and geotechnical engineering.

In 2000 the ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) created an award in his honour, to be given to "outstanding contributions to geotechnical engineering profession". The award was given in 2001 to Ben C. Gerwick Jr., to whom Ralph Peck inscribed this volume.

Scarce in the marketplace, we see no other copies of this volume online as of this writing.

___DESCRIPTION: Bound in simulated leather paper over boards, gilt lettering and rules on the front and spine, author's inscription in black ink on the half-title, frontis photo of the author "during the opening of the library bearing his name...on May 8, 2000", bound in throughout are black-and-white in-text reproductions of photographs; large quarto size (11.25" by 8.75"), pagination: [i-xviii] 1-350. Dust jacket is unclipped although there is no printed price, cover photograph taken by the author "from the top of the Marin Tower during the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge, 1936".

___CONDITION: Volume fine overall, with clean boards, straight corners with a minute amount of rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings other than the author's inscription; head and tail of the spine very gently bumped, else fine. The unclipped (albeit unpriced) dust jacket also fine, clean and without wear, the spine not faded.
