American writer and humourist Mark Twain (1835-1901) loved cats, and his affection for them comes out in these tales, written in the inimitable Twain style. This volume comprises two humorous tales about cats, "A Cat Tale" and "The Autobiography of Belshazzar", written for his three youngest daughters, previously unpublished (except for a part of the first paragraph of "A Cat Tale", which was quoted, with changes, by Albert Bigelow Paine in "Mark Twain, A Biography").

Includes two illustrations, the only known examples of pictorial art by Twain, and two little-known photographs, one of Twain, with cats, and the other of his three youngest daughters. This publication was included in the Exhibition of Western Books (Rounce & Coffin Club).
